Say My Naim: How a Quirky British Hi-Fi Company is Quietly Conquering the Globe

Naim Audio just turned 50 and it wasn’t always smooth sailing. 23 years after the passing of the late-Julian Vereker, Naim finds itself dominating the streaming landscape and growing in multiple categories. How did it get here? Jason Gould and EIC Ian White take a look back and forward into the future.

You know you want to. Say it twice. Naim. Founded by Julian Vereker MBE (1945-2000) in 1973, Naim Audio have been one of the linchpins of the high-end audio movement for fifty years and their hard-earned success is not something that they are taking for granted. The British manufacturer has never played by the rules and that has contributed significantly to their positioning and design ethos.

It is not a brand that creates feelings of ambivalence within the audio world; audiophiles either love or hate it. The marriage to Focal, one of the largest high-end loudspeaker brands in the world, took a lot of people by surprise and there were certainly some valid questions about how the two legacy brands situated across the English Channel from one another would work together and grow.

Has it worked?

Naim Brand Ambassador, Jason Gould, joins EIC Ian White to discuss the first fifty years, the legacy of the late-Julian Vereker, streaming, and why the brand is well-positioned to grow rather significantly over the next decade.
