Jerrold Box Locked, will chip unlock?

I've got a Jerrold analog box that's been locked by the cable company. When you hook it up to the cable signal the channels on the box will change but the tv stays on one channel. I've seen this before on units shut down for non-payment.

Unfortunately I didn't know about this when I bought the box off eBay, go figure, but I was wondering if I install a 'test chip' into the box if it will unlock itself.

I'll take any advice on how to unlock this box.

This is a very common problem when you purchase a box from a seller. I presume the converter is a CFT2200 model converter, right? The converter must be activated after you receive it, because the internal timer has timed out. You will need to get a SCG (service code generator) or a test chip with serial inside to activate the box. You can get this stuff from www.newelectronx.com or run a google search to find another company. They have very good prices on all this cool stuff. I hope this helps.
