Water & VHS: How deadly to the tape?

Early in May of this year I lost practically everything I owned in a fire. I was, however, able to salvage some stuff, including a bunch of my old VHS tapes.

They have some smoke damage(meaning, the external casing stinks like you wouldn't believe), but moisture is also evident in some of them. Water touched most of them, but dripplets of condensation are seen through the clear plastic.

I hope someone will tell me that these can be played/fixed in some shape, way, or form? Most, if not all, of these tapes are originals.

Anything on this at all would be so very much appreciated. Thanks.

If moisture got on the tape they are goners. If you put them in a VCR you are going to have problems with the VCR.
