DVD Supporting 6.1

Hi! I'd like to know if I buy 6.1 reciever do I also need to buy a new DVD player that supports 6.1? 'Yes' answer sounds logical to me, but I haven't noticed anywhere about DVD players supporting 6.1. I hope anyone will help me.

All DVD players with an optical or digital coaxial audio output will support 6.1 sound. But not all DVD's support 6.1 surround sound. A DVD must be encoded in a 6.1 format, which could be labeled THX Surround EX, DTS-ES, or Dolby Digital EX. In order to decode the 6.1 surround sound your receiver must support the same surround modes.

Does anyone know when the public will see any 6.1 dvds hit the shelves??
As far as I know no 6.1 exist yet to the public.

They are already out. The latest Star Wars is an example. It's 6.1. Try looking around Dolbys and DTSs web site for others. If you mean 6.1 DVD Players, don't bother. Let the receiver do the decoding. The digital connection sounds better, is more convenient and skips an A/D-D/A conversion.

...Unless you have SACDs in which case you don't have a choice.

Rob-
Do not look for 6.1 on the box. Look for Dolby Digital-EX and DTS-ES. Those are the 6.1 Formats.
All 6.1 decoding will be handled by the reciever as long as it is DD-EX or DTS-ES.
