I have posted this on the satellite section but this room but I visit this more and this board gets much more activity.

If I get an HD reciever with integrated off air tuner, (the dish network hd receiver 811 does this), do I still need an OTA?!!? Part of my package includes the local channels. I have a feeling the installer is trying to pull one over me. He's telling me I need a DBS cable along with the satellite cables. I hope someone can answer me soon.

I can't speak conclusively for Dish, but DirecTV provides the 'local' channels at SD only, not HD. I've been told if I updgrade to HD reception overall I'll also need an off-air antenna for local HD content.

I want to add to my original post that the 811 from dish network has "an integrated off air tuner for reception of local digital/HD and analog broadcasts." So now knowing that, can anyone tell me if I'm being taken advantage of.
