Hello everyone. I just bought the Hitachi 50v500 last night. I'm very satisfied with the picture quality. However, when watching dvds the picture seems just a tad bit stretched vertically. It does it on both 2:35 and 1:85 movies. I was also under the impression (although I could be wrong) that 1:85 movies should just about fill the screen completely up. However, there is still several inches on the top and bottom of letterbox bars when watching 1:85 movies. I know I'll have that with 2:35, but didn't expect as much with the 1:85. I've played with the settings as much as I can, but I don't see anything that lets me adjust the vertical size or positioning, unless I'm in one of the "zoom" modes, and I definately don't want to go that route. Anyone else have this issue. Any suggestions?

I seriously can't understand how anyone can say this TV has a great picture quality. I had an old RCA projection TV and it blew this one away. I was watching a show and thought this woman had a green plaid shirt on when in a close up I realized the shirt was a green polkadot shirt. Text looks great but who the heck is watching text on a television? I can't understand it. Granted I don't have HDTV hooked up yet but the DVD player quality is only a slight improvement over the regular cable picture quality. There always seems to be this foggy film on "top" of all the video that makes the picture shimmer as I watch. There is no definition to the faces that appear on video and everything just looks fuzzy. I didn't see this on any of the DLPs or other LCD projection tvs I looked at. I know this isn't simply an issue with the one I bought because the floor model it turns out has the same problems. The only thing that actually looked good on the floor model was animation movies which looks good on all of them. Not a true test of picture quality. Simply, I hate the thing. It gives me a headache just to watch it cause my eyes keep trying to focus the picture.
