I'm an old man that doesn't understand all the terminology. I need a replacement recorder but don't know what to buy. This is what I think I need, can one of you experts suggest something for me or is such a thing even available?

Must record digitally
Have coax input ports for both antennae and satellite
Programmable for both sources
Coax or RCA port for cabling to the TV
Hard drive
Disk drive for playing/recording CD's and movies
External ports for reading and recording from an external device

The only DVD recorder with a hard drive that I know of is made by Magnavox.

I don't know of any DVD recorder that has a port that lets you connect up an external device.

If you want all of these, you build a HTPC yourself.

That's about what I expected. What is an HTPC?

HTPC = home theater PC

If you have satellite, the satellite box has the tuner, so you don't necessarily need a coax input for it on your DVD recorder.

Good luck!
