Hi to everyone.

I don't know a thing about these and I'm not soo tech. gifted, so please, if you could give me a Breakdown on what I need and how to work this it would be great. Please give me as many deatails as possible, and if you need some deatils from me; I'll do my best to answer them.

Please keep in mind that Abbreviations will not tell me much.

I bought this vs xtreme 2000 reciever at a fundraiser, And unfortunately, there was not remote. Perhaps I'll find one somewhere. The Box has DVB DiSEqC on it.

Can I use my Star Choice Dish and just replace the LNB on it with one on EBAY?

I don't have a HDTV, . and I don't necessarily need 100/200 channels. I just want to get rid of the StarChoice and have something to watch (other than the 5 channels with diffent timeslots that I'm getting) .

Thanks to ya all.

Mr. Lonliboy. The Viewsat Extreme you bought is not good for StarChoice channels. You can try getting Galaxy 25 or Galaxy 3C, but I believe you will have to turn the Dish and change the LNB. I am sure somebody more knowledgeable than me will give you details. perhaps Mr. Garcia would be kind enough to do so.

With your Star choice antenna and the Viewsat you can get Globecast 97W with the actual LNB, about 200 international free to air channels are available, if you look for english channels, found a Bell dish then someone will help you on it!

Are I saying the vs xtreme has iks support?

"With your Star choice antenna and the Viewsat you can get Globecast 97W with the actual LNB"

I listed the vs xtreme for the 97W but never talked about this receiver to get iks!!!!!!

Plymouth,

no you didn't mention iks and you never mentioned why he would need a bell dish for english channels.

If the current dish is good for internationals at 97w it should be good for english at 101w

No ?

i have the same receiver and pick up NOTHINGas far as local channels go.... VS extreme 2000's are dead if you want local channels. NO BIN, NO FIX and NO you can not use a star choice dish...we used a bell dish same lnb on the VS extreme 2000 receiver.

And if you want international channels get an international dish.plus LNB ( think but not quite sure about that)

I no nothing about iks etc... you'll have to ask sada

lonliboy before you get started Read this

In True FTA satellites there are only 78 channels
in English Last update: 05/10/11 check the channels
listed below before you go out and spend your time and money.
As you can see not much out there, that is why they are free.

I would say for now your safe and best bet is to a subscription.
Sub-sharing with a family member or a friend or add on Video
service with your Internet provider

Cheers

One thing I have notice on this Forum, those who are always making troubles, quarelling, using foul languages,etcc.. etc. are always those illmannered teenagers.

They have nothing else important in their life, apart from messing with others.
Grow up !!!

I will say this,

when I joined this site and decided to post on this forum, I didn't think I was subscribing: to open a gossip collum.

Can't you people communicate in a way other than this? It's annoying getting all these messages sent to my email, and a bit immature from my perspective.

Now if I may continue with the subject at hand.

I do have a Bell Dish, but no LNB, But I could likely find one on EBAY.

The Star Choice Dish is an eliptical one.

Now according to the channels that one person posts- they seem to be of little intersest to me- Mostly Religious, are they not?

I seem to be getting some confusing information. I would also like for somone to clarify That this is or is not legal to get FREE channels via FTA.

Thanks for all they replies that are relevant to my topic, and please feel free to continue to offer suggestions and help if you will.

Thanks.

true FTA is LEGAL and yes most true FTA channels are religious and infomercials . There are no local channels avalible like "abc , nbc , fox..etc not even Canadian channels like cbc, ctv pbs or citytv...etc.

like i said earlier buy a digital to analog converter box . After Aug. 31 2011 ALL CANADIAN channels will be digital... if you want local channels, the converter will allow you to get some .

not only is it legel, but free after buying a converter box.

i hope this helps you lonilboy

BTW I am truely sorry for highjacking your thread like i have done. i was only trying to defend myself and for this i apologize for my part in the BS. I AM SORRY

In the US, we went thru that analog to digital conversion a few years ago..each houshold was offered 2 free digital conversion boxes though a Government regulated agency...the boxes are ONLY needed if ya have an older type TV..the newer HD TV's, the past couple years, already will receive viewable (due to the newerr tuners built in), the digital signals for ya, and no receivers are needed..

TRUE FTA (free to air- roof antenna or satellite dish..and perfectly legal to use) has very very limited channels, usually a limited geographical range and not worth any large expenses..I use it myself just to receive some local channels (abc, cbs, nbs, fox, public tv) that my local satellite, cable, and verizon providers do not offer in any of their packages...

BTW...NN, heres a lil education again for ya...there is NO such place as Largo Key in Florida..south, east, west, or north....and the word "key" is a term used instead of "island"...There is a Largo Florida, but its not an island nor a "Key"....and once again I tell you, I use no other nicks here..

You could look here http://www.ftalist.com/index.php, see if you find a sat with a channel or two you wish to view..

Basically ..you do antenna setup , select active TP and aim dish

Lets say you're interested in 101w --hist and bio ...you would go into the menu , installation, ( if it asks for password try 0000 or master password 0937, 3570) then antenna setup,
select amc 4 101w-
-the menu should look like this

LNB POWER: ON
LNB TYPE: Standard
LNB Frequency : 10750
22 Khz: OFF
TP Freq: 12060
SEARCH ALL
DiSeCq 1.0: NONE

Just need to make sure the lnb type and lnb freq are correct along with any switches or motor if they are being used.

you would use lnb freq of 10750 for the fta channels

The TP freq I put in is the one that hist and bio are on. That info can be found at lyngsat or here http://www.dishpointer.com/ to help in aiming the dish , just select the sat you want , set up the map for your location , aim as shown and adjust elevation till you get signal...
after you have locked on to the sat do a blind scan to obtain the available channels

Keep in mind I don't have a viewsat and the name of the sats change over time..(amc 4 has been replaced by ses 1 at 101w) so I don't know how its listed in your receiver---any sat in the menu can be used as long as you do the proper antenna set up..

or something like that

Lonliboy: You asked "That this is or is not legal to get FREE channels via FTA. "

FTA means Free To Air. If you go into http://lyngsat.com you will see a lot of channels in a lot of sats

Go into one of the satellites listed for America. where under the heading "System Encryption" it says F, it means there is no encryption - it is a true FTA channel. It is a channel you can legally watch using any FTA receiver and the proper Dish, LNB, and scanning.

Now we look into the actual channel lists. Very often you will find Channels listed under TP Frequency of 3000-4900 - These are often usable only with a linear LNB. The free channels are also colour coded (see the bottom of the list) for which ones are free.

The channels requiring a TP frequency of over 10500 use a circular LNB. They are mostly encrypted but you may find a few unencrypted channels in those sections.

The above are only general statements. You will discover after detailed scrutiny that the channels you want to watch (in the free to air section) are distributed over many satellites. To be able to really view several channels, you might have to have a larger Dish (33-42inch), a linear LNB, and a motor to move the Dish around.
With this kind of arrangement you may be able to see over 500 channels out of which, if you exclude the foreign language and the religious channels, you may end up with 30 or so you might want to pause at and watch. In that group of watchable channels there will be PBS (public Broadcasting System), some news, and some special interest channels.

As for the circus created by Doreen, and Garcia and such like, I will apologize to you on behalf of Ecoustics. There are some trouble makers who having been suspended once, want to harass the newbies and also the good helpers. You will find in this forum good helpers like, Plymouth, Subash, Sada and of course me. There are people like LK who are so volatile with their tempers that you can never know what she would do next. Most of the posters who have been registered in the past 3 months and act knowingly are those who were suspended before and are trying to ruin the forum.

Don't be surprised if after my post there are a lot of stupid posts to discredit me. That is their usual style.

Thanks for some really great informative posts.
I'll have to take some time to digest the information.

I live in Nova Scotia Canada, so perhaps that will help with the information that is applicable to my geographical location.

I really do appreciate the information.

If the link provided in the email which is supposed to take you to the discussion could be somehow fixed by the administration, that would be quite beneficial.

This is the link it says to use:
https://www.ecoustics.com/cgi-bin/bbs/show.pl?2/682888

It seems you have to navigate from there to the site and discussion page.

Thanks AGAIN.
