Globalstar Announces Satellite Launch Delay
April 11, 2011 6:16 AM ET

COVINGTON, La., April 11, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, government, and individuals today announced that satellite manufacturer Thales Alenia Space has determined during pre-launch activities that the second launch of six second-generation satellites be delayed. Thales explained that additional technical checks to the satellites were necessary in order to respect the quality process and secure the mission. The launch was previously scheduled for mid-May.

"Thales Alenia Space has notified us of a launch delay and we regret that Thales will not adhere to their previous schedule," said Tony Navarra, President of Global Operations, Globalstar, Inc. "We have accepted the recommendation but do not anticipate a lengthy delay. We are working closely with Thales Alenia Space to provide additional information regarding the timing of our next launch, as it becomes available."

Globalstar signed a contract with Thales Alenia Space in late 2006 for the design, manufacture and delivery of its second-generation satellites. In 2007 Globalstar contracted with Arianespace for launches of six satellites each using the Soyuz.
