If I swap the switch dp34 with dp44 will the legacy dish receivers work the same way. I have dishpro plus dish 118 119 110 lnbs. reason I need to swap is to make the new hd receivers work and be able to pickup all the lnbs

DP34 - 3 LNBs in and 4 receivers out. Not so reliable with non DN equipment.

DP44 - 4 LNBs in and 4 receivers out. Works well with non DN equipment.

Overall DP44 is better.

A DPP44 has built-in DP adapter, so will work with Legacy receivers too. DP switch shows as an SW type in Legacy receiver's check switch. If using DP adapter with current dp34 setup, you can remove it when installing DPP44.

Use the DPP-33 costless than the DPP-44, both are compatible with Legacy receiver!

THEY are identical in set up . whatever set up you were using for dp34 use it for dpp44. the only difference is that dpp44 uses a power adapter to help not loosing signal if u use many receiver same time .

COCOON: The above two answers will suffice. basically for non dishprop use and for use with non-dishpro receivers, i have ALWAYS advised that people use a DP44, because of the power supply problems. This advice from e goes back to 2006.. The use of an otherwise non-working DN reciever will circumvent a power supply problem if kept on all the time, if your wife does not accidentally switch off!
This particular user was already talking about buying DP44, so it is but natural
The current prices of DP44 are not too harsh compared to 2006.
And Tulipe, the DP44 has one more sat input compared to DP34, but otherwise they are identical (except for the power supply you noted).
DP34 and DP44 can also be cascaded.

here are the specs on both switches.

NOTE: Will not work with DishPro Plus LNBFs. For these type of LNBFs, you will need the DPP33 or DPP44 switch.

DP34 Switch Features

The first switch in the new DISH Pro Technology series of LNBFs and switches.
Three inputs for use with up to three orbital locations.
Four outputs for connections up to four tuner inputs.
Three "trunk" connections, to "trunk" to another DP34 Switch.
Does not require power insertion.
Can be used indoors or outdoors.
DishPro switches may be cascaded 3 switches deep and are DiSEqC Compatible.

Special Considerations

Can only be used with DISH Pro LNBFs (DISH Pro Twin LNBF for two orbital locations (110° and 119°), DISH Pro Twin LNBF with a DISH Pro Single LNBF for three orbital locations or up to three DISH Pro Single LNBFs).
When used with a DISH Pro Twin, the LNBF operates in its default state: one port provides 110° and one port provides 119°. Either port of the DISH Pro Twin can be connected to any two LNBF ports of the DP34 Switch.
Tuner Outputs: DISH 301 and DISH 501 have one tuner, and would use one DP34 tuner output; DISH 721 has two tuners, and would use two DP34 tuner outputs.
Up to three DP34 Switches can be "trunked" together, for connections up to twelve tuner inputs (12 single-tuner receivers (DISH 301 or DISH 501), or a combination of single-tuner receivers and two-tuner receivers (DishPVR 721).
There must be at least one DISH Pro receiver (or a legacy receiver with a DISH Pro Adapter) connected to the switch at all times to provide power. The receiver can be connected to any receiver port on the DP34 Switch.
DISH Pro Installations can support up to 200' RG-6 cable lengths, from the LNBFs to the furthest receiver. DP34 Switches can be placed anywhere in the installation, but placement closer to the receivers is recommended.
Two styles of DP34 Switches will be sold. Both switches provide identical features and functionality, but have different exterior cosmetics.

Sample Installation with Dish500

Legacy Receivers

A "legacy" receiver (non-DISH Pro receivers, released before DISH 301) can be connected to a DISH Pro DP34 Switch, when used with a DISH Pro Adapter

4 Orbital Locations, 4 Tuner Outputs

The DISH Pro Plus 44 Switch features DISH Pro Plus Technology, LNBF inputs supporting four orbital locations, four receiver outputs, expansion ports to connect additional switches, and a power inserter.

DISH Pro Plus-compatible dual-tuner receivers (942, 625, 921,721,522 and 322) can be connected with a single-cable, when used with a DISH Pro Plus Separator.

Provides four LNBF inputs for reception from up to four locations.

Three "trunk" connections, to "trunk" to another DP44 Switch.

Requires power insertion, power supply included

Special Considerations

Can only be used with DishPro or DPPlus LNBFs (Twin LNBF for two orbital locations (110° and 119°),

Legacy Receivers

A "legacy" receiver (non-DishPro receivers, released before Dish301) can be connected to a DishPro DPP44 Switch, without using a DishPro Adapter. The DPP44 switch has built-in DISH Pro Adaptor which will allow this switch to be used with any DISH Network receiver including older legacy equipment

Installation Guide.

DP Plus 44 Switch Features

Four inputs for use with up to four orbital locations.
Four outputs for connection to up to four tuner inputs.
Four "trunk" connections, to "trunk" to another DP Plus 44 Switch.
DOES require power insertion.
Can be used indoors or outdoors.

Special Considerations

Up to four single-tuner DISH Pro receivers.
Up to two dual-tuner receivers
Up to four DISH Pro Plus receivers when each is used with a DP Plus Seperator

Legacy Receivers

Legacy receivers do not need a DISH Pro Adapter.
2800, 3900, 4900, and 6000 will view the switch as an "SW-21 4Sat" with up to four satellite locations.
1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 71/7200, and JVC IRR will view the switch as an SW-64 with up to three satellite locations.
