Helping a friend in getting a HD receiver. Ideally wants both FTA and charlie but seems impossible to get one. Looks like need 2 boxes

AZBox can do 4:2:2 and DVB-S2, but no compatible Turbo 8pSK card.
CW-4000HD - with built in Skywalker -3 can do charlie Turbo 8psk, however it cannot do 4:2:2 and DVB-S2.

Are there many unencrypted HD on 4:2:2 and DVB-S2

Hi Subash!

I use a SD receiver without IKS only for Free To Air!

I get my TV on internet now for free in HD.

A Viewsat 9000HD in my book will work on both IKS and FTA!

Only PBS and few feeds will work in HD FTA!

Is the cost worth it?

An motorized outdoor antenna (OTA) could be a better choice if his area permit many channels!

He can write his adress to this site to see what channels are available for him:

Thanks Plymouth, very good links
I am trying to understand the workings 4:2:2, DVB-S2. etc

I believe there are sports feeds, some of them are not listed in lyngsat - not sure of encryption

May be this hockey feed is of interest to you:

Thanks Subash!

I know this link, the only problem is that most of the feed are on C-Band!

Much easier to get the hockey on internet even in HD!

That's right, since many kicked a*ss and CRTC backed down on forcing everybody to change to Usage Based Billing there is hope. In Ontario, DSL provider TekSavvy has increased limit to 300GB per month and for $8 more unlimited. So internet HD is great.

C-Band needs ugly huge 6 feet antenna, looks like you have FTA only for kband

With trees 40 feets high around the house I can't use easily a C-Band system!

All my antennas are on a mast of 25 feets high!

Anyway many TV stations and specialized channels broadcasts in HD for free and on demand to the internet for the regret of the cable and satellite provider!

They must listen their custumers and send us what we want this bunch of loser!

Yes on the roof, the mast is 10 feets high with the house height for a total of 25 feets, the dish still well aimed trough the time as the trees hidden the wind.
