DirectTV is reportedly considering offering a $20-per-weekend pass for its popular NFL Sunday Ticket service that would be streamed through set-top boxes (STBs) like Apple TV, GoogleTV, Roku and Boxee.

Also on the table is the possibility of charging $40/$50 for a digital-only version for the five-month NFL season.

That is the conclusion that Engadget came to after receiving a leaked marketing survey which contained answers--but no questions. Nonetheless, the writers are extrapolating from the data that the satellite provider was testing the waters for a scaled-back, streaming version of the exclusive TV package, which goes for around $300 for the season, delivered over traditional DBS infrastructure.

Sunday Ticket subscribers already can access their content by Web and phone, as part of DirecTV's extensive TV Everywhere play. But extending a streamed version for a little less money (and less commitment) to the expanding universe of STB options offers yet more exposure and satisfies those that would be willing to pay $250 to access every American football game that's played, but who might be reluctant to get wrapped up into a two-year satellite TV contract in order to do so. Blu-ray players and game consoles were also mentioned in the survey.
