OK men, am told only the finest minds in the satellite industry are found here.

I need your help please. Am in Canada have a Directv sub, have not been able to get locals for 2 years. Just finally managed to get DTV to change my address from Florida to Michigan, via email, not easy to do.

At any rate I have been reactivated under new address, but they tell me I have the wrong dish and that I need a multi dish.

I have lots of dishes but all single. I get the works all on 101 satellite, single dish. I can get 101 in in my sleep. I can be up on the roof and spin the dishj, blind folded and get 101 in, but for the life of me can not get 119.

I am trying to get 119 in on a single dish, just basically to see if I will be able to view my locals.

Anybody have any tips, perhaps there is a tree in the way? But 101 is perfect.

Now do Dish and DTV both share the 119 satellite?
Because I know how to get 110 and 119 on Dish, via FTA, MAYBE I should try finding signal with my old viewsat?

What ransponder should I be on to search for it? I read somewhere that transponders 22-32 where all DTV 119 transponders.

At any rate I will be very grateful to any man or woman that would help me. Excuse me while I adjust my robe, just fell off.

Any ideas.

Locals are sometimes "spot beamed". If you're in Canada then you're outta luck. You need DirectTV's canadian equiv. Starchoice or something.

Are there not locals that are not spot beamed? Would they be all on 101?

I should have told them I moved to a place that had locals, that are NOT spot beams...I could move again in a few weeks, got a job offer that required me to move again, or I could say the job here did not work out.

Any idea where I find that out?

Go to: http://www.dishnetwork.com/customerService/programmingGuides/default.aspx

Type in zip code and you will see that LA and NY locals are not spotbeamed.

Most local channels are spot beamed, there wouldn't be enough transponders if all would be available nationwide.

Just me, nobody in States, I am in Canada, I have a address in Michigan, but it`s a spot beam, I am probably 300 miles away.

So I goofed in picking a spot beam, there was a method to my madness?

I think I found 119, could be 110, but at any rate even though it says strong signal on some transponders, unit will not download.

Other DTV forum guy says you have toi have 119 and 101 together for it to work, I have 2 dishes I just need to figure out which switch I need.

Friend this is a new one on me. You say

Ok, so DirecTV has you now listed living in in Michigan,

If you are now located in Canada where do they send the bill?
Who reinstall and reactived your you equipment from
Florida to Michigan?

DirecTV says you must have at least one receiver
plug in to a land phone line in order to receive
their service, now living in Canada
how did you work around that?

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!

I do not know where to start, First off you do not need to have any phone plugged into a receiver!
Being in Canada I could hardly have them come and install, now could I???

Install yourself, it`s easy! Do you have people install your sh*t?

As you know the normal DTV 800 numbers do not work from Canada, however, there are many DTV retailers that have 800 numbers that do work from Canada.

Also you can get yourself a Magic Jack, do what I did, look for a address in Michigan whatever, I just found one that was for sale, ...might want to make sure they do not have DTV already, in my case it was a empty house with pics in real estate, and there was no dish

As for payment, this is the third time I have had DTV account over the last 10 years probably, and in each case my Canadian Visa card is deducted directly by Directv.

Moving from Florida to Michigan was tricky because a half dozen emails they say, oh you will have to phone the 800 number. I tell them I just moved, my phone will not be hooked up for 3 weeks, I installed it myself, could you please activate my locals.

Finally a decent DTV specialist, said, no problem I have all the info here from your many emails, sorry for confusion.

But all in vane anyway because I cant get the locals even from Michigan. Also, if you dont care about locals you dont even have to tell them you moved, you also have to quickly sign up for paperless billing.

Pretty much have to buy your eqipment, they know its your equipment, buy it brand new. You dont get the specials when you own your own equipment, and you also do not have the 2 year commitment.

Thousands upon thousands of CVanadians have DTV accounts, I can do almost anything via directv.com on my own account, change most programming

I include a redactyed email for the doubters...

Dear Mr.

Thank you for writing. I understand your concern regarding your DIRECTV account and I would be happy to address this for you.

After reading your emails, I understand that you cannot call in to update your address on your account. With all of the information you have provided I went ahead and updated your address to:

. MI 48430-976692

I have resent the programming information to all 8 active receivers on your account. You should be receiving locals from your new current address. I show that the locals in your market: Flint-Saginaw-Bay City MI should be:

5 WNEM CBS
12 WJRT ABC
14 WBSF CW
25 WEYI NBC
28 WCMZ PBS
35 WDCQ PBS
35-2 WDCQ2 PBS
66 WSMH FOX

If you do not see the locals listed in your guide or when you go to the channel number and they are not available; please reset your receivers. On the bottom right hand side of the receiver there is a little door, flip down the door and there is a red reset button inside. Please press this button and allow the system to reset.

If you still are unable to view your local channels, please verify that you have the correct dish. I show that in order to view locals in your new market you will need a multi satellite dish or 3 LNB dish. To verify what you are using please go to channel 9513 & 9514, if you see the error message Channel Not Available, this means you do not have the correct dish to view your locals. If this is the case than we would need to speak with you in order to get you up and running as quickly as possible.

Additionally, I show that you have an International Language package on your account and this also requires an International dish in order to view these channels. To verify if you have the correct dish for these channels please go to channel 9503, if you receive the same message Channel Not Available, you are not setup for the International dish and would need to speak with you regarding this as well.

I am very sorry for all of the inconvenience that has been caused up to this point. Please accept my apology on behalf of DIRECTV and hope that you find all of this information useful. We would hate to lose you as a customer, as we value your business and want to see you happy with your DIRECTV.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you and thank you again for writing.

Sincerely,

(ID )

hey sleep...U gained nothing (programming wise) by doing an address change from Florida to Michigan....U will never get DTV locals while living in Canada, 300 miles away from the US..As already stated, DTV spotbeams all locals ONLY to the specific geographical area you use as an address...People living in rural areas and addresses can get the major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) on the 380s channels from either LA or NYC depending which coast is closer to them, since those are NOT spotbeamed to a specific local area, and are considered national...

If U lived closer to the US border, U could probably get Detroit or Buffalo or some border city US locals, but not from 300 miles away in Canada..

BTW, whoever said U MUST have 1 receiver plugged into the phone line is totally wrong....thats what DTV says, but its not true..unplug em all and U will still always have service...

LK is correct.

The phone line is for the providers to be able to charge you for pay-per-views. All "regularly"-subscribed stuff works without the phone.
