Picked up some VHS tapes at the thrift shop. I should have known something was up, as they were in taped up in hard plastic cases, and when I got them home and removed the cases they had a really strong musty moth balls smell. Let them air out in the basement (probably not the best spot to get rid of a musty smell), and the boxes smell fine, but a couple of the tapes still smell (it seems the tape soaked up the must smell). Sorry for posting this here as it's technically not a technical VCR question, but I figured someone may have a helpful answer so...has anyone dealt with a situation like this before? Any helpful hints to get the stink out of these tapes? Will playing them in a VCR make the VCR heads musty and then transfer the stink/mustiness to subsequent tapes? Inquiring minds want to know (and they'd also like to get cracking watching The Purple Monster Strikes).
