HELP PLEASE! Do I need to upgrade my dvd player for my new receiver?

Omar
Please offer your suggestions. I just bought a new receiver and speaker set up. I am confused on upgrading my DVD and or CD player.

Receiver: Marantz SR 9200 (top end with all features except THX ultra 2

Speakers: Paradigm Reference Studio 60 and equivalent 5.1 set up (CC, front, Rear, subwoof). Delivery coming this week!

TV: Sony 32" I forget the model# but is NOT HDTV.
It is a VEGA flat screen- very nice but no HDTV and I am not upgrading it in the immediate future.

My current DVD player is a Sony DVP-NS325 single disc. It says it handles DD, DTS, and MP3. Video 10/27, audio 24/192. My CD player is an old carousel that doesn't have digital hook up.

With all that said, my questions are the following:
1. Without a HDTV, will the VIDEO QUALITY be improved by upgrading the DVD player? Will I notice an improvement with improved video D/A converter bits?

2. More importantly for me, with DVDs, will the AUDIO be improved with a better DVD player? What features should I seek for my level of quality system? My DVD player would play in 5.1 correct?

3. Most importantly, I listen to a lot of CDs. Ideally, I would prefer a 5-disc carousel because I hate changing CDs all the time. However, a few sales people have told me that I should by an excellent Single DVD player (and use that for my "critical listening") and if I want a carousel, buy a cheaper CD player ($250) for the rest of the time/ having company over etc.
-is this true?
-do only dvd players play DVD-audio music and SACD?
-are DVD carousel audio production not as good as a single player? Same for CD players?
-for music, which is better, an excellent CD player or a DVD player with DVD-audio and SACD?

Please help. If the sales guys are right I was thinking of getting the new Marantz DV6400 coming out and a good but reasonable Cd changer. Any other suggestions? I appreciate your comments on any of these issues. Thanks, Omar

Since you are not upgrading your tv now I would only get a new dvd player if you are going to get into sacd or dvd-audio. You will need a new player to do that and when you do I would get a good universal player like the elite dv-45 or 47 or the Onkyo 800 or the new Yamaha. For now if you like the way your player sounds on cd's I would leave well enough alone but it is fun to buy new stuff and it's your money so I can't tell you what to do with it. As far as music quality goes just buy a new universal player when you are ready and it will sound great in any format.

don't forget the DENON universal players. the best damn sacd/dvd-a players ever made. check out the 5-disc model. also if you have alot of cd's a big changer is not a bad idea for just cd's. this might sound funny but a large dvd changer is the best because most can do mp3,wma,cdrw,dvd-rw playback and have a good on screen menu.also they may have better d\a converters than most cd players. you can also use it as a dvd player for the kids movies. keep the miles off the dvd-a player.
