I got Viewsat xtreme box from someone that I want to use purely for FTA channels. I believe I would need a bigger dish ? I dont have any dish right now

Does anyone know what FTA channels can be viewed in North America using the above receiver and perhaps a bigger dish ? Someone told me there are about 50 or so FTA channels that I can receive ? Is there any list anywhere that I can see if there are good English channels and if its worth hooking that receiver up.

any help would be appreciated...

Most of the English FTA channels were located
at Galaxy 18 at 123.0°W
but most of them are now located at Anik F3 at 118.8°W
on C-band. There are few here and there, but none of the
big boys like ABC ,CBS, NBC or FOX plus you will need a motorized
Dish to hit any Bird that has Ku-band FTA channels.
Here is a Link that may help you.

If you live near a city you best bet is to install a rooftop Antenna
with a pre-amp.on a Rotor

IA....... it all depends were you are located
From the East coast you can get by with a 33"
but for $10.00 more I would go for the 36"

If you do decide to install a motorize system
I would use the Stab Rotor HH100 made in Italy
I had no problem with this Rotor in the past six 6 years

For info. check them out.....http://64.78.51.244/download/HH90TEST.pdf

Best all around LNB this Invacome LNB is a High performance LNBF where the signal strength is poor. This LNB is for the simultaneous reception of Circular and Linear Satellite at the same orbital position. 2 outpurs Linear polarized (V & H) switched. 2 outputs Circular polarized (LHC & RHC) switched.
INVACOM LNB QPH-031 Quad Output QPH-031 $49.95

I have 2 HH-90, but the next will be the SG-2100, more reliable and stronger in cold weather!

The expensive Invacom QPH-031 which I have is a very good LNB with High gain, but if the guy want only True FTA, I don't see why he would like to pay for this LNB!

I agree if he is only interested in True FTA Birds
which is not much to chose from a cheap $15.00
Linear LNB will do the job, but he has enter the
FTA Satellite Community so I thought I would take
few minutes of my time and let IA know some of
the thinks that are out there. My time his choice.

Plymouth has had motorised dish and has actually tested 2-3 different LNBs for that.
The information he posts about this topic is very reliable.

You are right!

As soon that provider heard that you get those channels, they cut it or encrypt it!

Yes for everything.

Good Sports feeds are slowly going away, because of a few morons on a few sites... I still know where to look to find things but many of the HD feeds are now encrypted.

Movies yes I have a few but no in HD, and yes all the others are across the arc.

You would be best of with a 10' or 12 dish with c/ku-band feed. I have a wideband feed myself for even more great channels and feeds.

I use a Patriot 1.1 meter with qph031 on ku-band and I use a 10.5' c/ku-band dish as well.

Had a 90cm but took it down.

Thanks Teddy for your input, but I will site back
and wait.I don't think my wife would like to see
a 10 foot Dish in the front yard.
I also checked all the C-band Birds listed
at LyngSat and don't see any good channels.

As for the best kept secret channels that are aired
who does the provider airs them for that don't want
anyone else with a C-band system to watch?
Thanks again

Most C-band feeds are for cable distribution ONLY, satellite and cable company's use these master feeds to rebroadcast to there customer base.

They are not intended for home users.

They are not intended for home users.

Then why do THEY broadcast in FTA mode... I would say THEY are the morons , not the the person/site spreading the news.

Chaff it is less of a hassle and is a lower cost to broadcast a feed without encryption, the affiliates are given feed locations, today many people are able to do blind scan, and the bad thing is some people just do not know what info they should not share, there have been many feeds that use to be open, a few websites were brought up in meetings, and knowledge of unauthorized reception was brought to the suits. Many open feeds have now been encrypted, and more have planned dates for encryption.

I share my feeds on live chat with a selected few fellow feed hunters, I also am a member of certain sites with private access. People seem to think the world should know that they are watching free ppv or raw network feeds, and they post them all over the place, after a given amount of time this info makes it back to the suits, and well I hope you understand.

Thanks teddy I do understand ...

Nalin the blind skunk, I am referring to the fact 99% of the info posted on this site should not be posted in public

Teddy, you said: "I share my feeds on live chat with a selected few fellow feed hunters,..."

A secret no longer is a secret once you share it with evenonce person. I think the real reason might lie in the dealings of the Big guys with the Obama governemnt and any changes they fell are coming.
