If your Internet service is thru a cable company
here is how to connect to receive cable TV
using an A/B switch.
Upload
A) Connect the Internet incoming cable
that is now connected to your Cable Modem
to the center post of the A/B switch.

B) From post "A" on the A/B switch
connect to your Cable Modem.

C) From post "B" on the A/B switch
connect to your TV.

Needless to say you can only use one at
a time, but it's all legal if you are paying for
boardband internet service

It works for me in four rooms in my home
using this Amplifier (Note) for one or two
TVs no Amplifier is required.

Whiskey

This were discussed many times, I'm happy to see that it work for you but that does not work for me because the cable company has put a filter which block the TV signal!

Doesn't work fer me either...same reason, cable filters...and cable offers various packages, so which package would ya get doing this, if ya only subscribe to the internet?....just curious..

With the advent of Hi Def package technology

MOST cable providers soon catched on to this good trick....

It used to work great
when we were able to use it.....

So enjoy, Whiskey,......you're a lucky guy.

Well Sir with my setup as I have posted above workes great for me.
Don't know if a different package would make a difference,
I can't see were it would, but who knows untill you try it.

Btw LK why would you need this setup? only about (60) channels.
You have posted here many times that you and your family
friends do sharing?????

I own many 5 homes in a few states, not just one...a couple are in the mountains surrounded by trees and have no clear line of site, so I must use cable at those ..so I have/had Verizon Fios, Comcast cable, Time Warner cable, Charter cable, Dishnet sat, and Directv sat....

BTW...haven't seen Verizon Fios hacked ever, and been a few years since most cable companies have had a working "modified" hacked cable modem, but satellite has various options to use (like sub sharing)...also I rate Verizon Fios as the worse provider...and then Comcast or Directv as the best TV providers, based on costs, quality, and customer support..

hmmm....60 channels...sounds like "basic" package with no extra's...

Hey what can I say, my setup works for me
when I am finish with my PC I switch over to my TV
kick back ,pop a beer and watch TV
Just a simple installation, no big deal,
maybe my setup can work for same people
and not for others depends on who is your
provider. It works for me that is all I have to say .

Whiskey...yer thread here is a good one and just may work for some.....ya know the saying, "nothing ventured, nothing gained"..so if this works fer even just 1 person, then ya helped somebody...nobody is doubting what ya say...we're just simply saying with some cable providers, times have changed and this may not work....and great for those that do get this to work..

I dont get it why the AB switch. If you get the TV signal then just place a simple splitter!!
and use both internet and Tv at the same time.

Bob Bakshi....a splitter will put both my PC and TV on the
incoming service at the same time.
An A/B switch will do only one at a time.

I have already tried that, but kept going out after few days.
I would guess both on the same line at the same time
was too much gain lost.????

In most major cities, the cable TV people use a filter which disallows TV on your cable unless you have paid for it.

For the people that live in the USA and have an Internet
boardband service.

A very quick and simple test.
take a small tv and put it next to your Modem
disconnect the incoming cable from the Modem
and connect it to your TV even a caveman can do it.

Different Countries
Different Cities
Different Providers
Different Setups

Whiskey is totally wrong
Firstly: if it works with an A/B it should work with a splitter
Secondly: Cable company put a filter trap how on earth you can cancel a filter with an amplifier?
How on earth a drop amplifier can possibly cancel band pass?
Is this a new theory of electronics?

The trap filter blocks modulated signal from 50Hz to 850Hz
How can you cancel it? Explain
You can amplify all you want

How can you boost something totally blocked?

Whiskey said "disconnect the incoming cable from the Modem

desi NN said "how on earth am I going to connect a ethernet modem to my TV directly? "

aaah...thats not what Whiskey said to do..ya have from yer outside cable box an incoming line (RG6 cable and RF connector) into your modem, not an ETHERNET incoming line...THEN U have an ethernet cable FROM MODEM TO PC for internet..and then ya also have an RG6 cable outline from modem to TV jacks..and also a phone line outgoing from modem to yer phone jacks...if ya have a typical 3 purpose (cableTV, internet, phone) modem

KIng...Whiskey is just saying that this will work in some places where cable filters are not being used...wherever that may be in this day and age..

just a small side note....

Filtering techniques are being phased out.

DIGITAL CABLE requires a set-top converter box.

This converter can be programmed REMOTELY
TO ALLOW OR DISALLOW ACCESS TO CHANNELS
ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS.

The use of IPTV
(i.e., delivery of television over an INTERNET or IP-based network)
makes it even easier,
since the provisioning of channels
can be FULLY AUTOMATED.

whiskey did u try splitter and see the difference?
i was using splitter , i don't think it makes a difference if u use a/b switch or splitter

I was thinking if you have a boardband Internet service
and you are able to receive Video and Audio on your
PC Monitor then why can't you remove your incoming
Coaxial Cable from your Modem and connect it to your TV?

SADA.......Whiskey is saying that he is only getting
the Basic Channels
everyone is making a big deal out of all this.
Like Whiskey said if you have an Internet
Boardband try it.

seriously trying to figure out how this thread descended into an argument, no filter on the line this works fine take cable incoming and split 1 side to modem, other side out to as many tvs as you like, both internet and cable will work. No amplifiers etc needed.

Even with a filter on the line you will probably get a limited amount of channels. I have friends who have been doing this for years. Another thing to try is if you have a tv with an HD tuner, connect the cable to tv, and run a scan for channels you might be surprised at what you find one of my friends got like 20 extra channels most are music, but there are a couple of HD channels as well.

RTAP: I just notices his post. It says:

"Rtap: where your boyfriend ....Dantetn.
Go ply with him."

There is nothing illegal about have a same seex boyfriend or girlfriend. Of course, you can't have children.

However, the reality of your being here is that you have either been kicked out as mod or your site is not doing well. Signs of the times.
