Okay I have some questions for someone that knows more than I do... So I need to split my main cable line to 3 objects HD-DVR, Standard TV and a Cable Modem... so I was looking into 3 way splitters. My question is what is the advantage of a "balanced" 3 way vs. a regular. I see that a normal 3 way splitter has 2 legs at -7db and one at -3.5db

where as the balanced has all 3 legs at -5.5db

Is this a marketing scheme or would this be beneficial?

Second, If I chose a standard 3 way and put the internet on the 3.5db would -7db hurt my HDTV reception? Or verse visa would the -5.5db hurt my Internet speeds?

The -5.5dB , -3.5dB, -7dB numbers describe the signal loss of that particular port.
-3dB = 50% power loss
-6dB = 75% power loss

I wouldn't buy the splitters you have there. I'd buy the ones from Monster Cable that go up to 2GHz. I have one myself.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I have been reading that Cable TV doesn't broadcast much over the 1000 GHz range so the Monster splitters wouldn't give me much of an advantage unless I was going to switch to Satellite which does use the upper bands

As an electrical engineer, I prefer the extended bandwidth to 2GHz on their TGHZ model.

You are welcome to buy whatever you choose.
