Asian Television Network International Limited (ATN) (TSX-SAT), Canada's largest South Asian broadcaster and largest distributor of World Class Cricket, is delighted to announce it has received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for ten more digital television licences to better serve the growing demand for movies, music, news, sports and entertainment in South Asian communities across Canada.
The licences are for channels which will broadcast live news and sporting events from South Asia, Canada and other parts of the world, as well as movies and music.
"We are proud of this major addition of three sports services, three news services, two movie, and two music channels to our portfolio of South Asian television services in Canada," said Mr. Shan Chandrasekar, ATN's president and CEO.
The company currently operates 14 specialty television channels as well as ATN Asian Radio on XM 159, the only Satellite Radio serving North America's South Asian Diaspora. ATN video content is also available on any Bell mobile phone that supports video. ATN has programming alliances with leading international broadcasters and is the long-term rights holder for the Indian Premier League (IPL), ICC World Cricket and ICC World Cup Cricket.
South Asians are Canada's largest and fastest growing visible minority group. According to the 2006 Census the group numbered more than 1.2 million people -- a 37% increase over 2001. Other subscribers to ATN services include Canadian cricket fans of British heritage, including many from the West Indies, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
To subscribe to ATN and for more details about our services and their schedules, please visit www.asiantelevision.com or contact your local service provider.
