| I am looking for a progressive scan player (it will improve the projector performance) that can play PAL DVD, because this is the italian standard. I am interested in Harman Kardon products (I planned to buy the 5500 ampli) and the DVD 25 seems to be a wonderful option but....only NTSC progressive scan. Now my question: is it possible to upgrade the player to PAL? Otherwise what can I do with a NTSC system in a PAL area? There are other progressive scan PAL DVD player costing between 1000 and 1500 $? Please help me! |

Anonymous | Harman Kardon DVD 25 can be upgraded to support PAL progressive scan using this file: http://www.apache.net/vision/dvd25_upgrade_02.asp |
Anonymous | The above link doesnt work. Are you sure there is a patch for the H/K DVD25 to make it Progressive in PAL? |
Anonymous | The correct (or new) URL is: http://www.apache.net/vision/dvd25_upgrade_01.asp or if you prefer french: http://www.christophefantoni.com/cherche_lecteur.php?id=362 The two firmware binaries downloadable from these two links are bit-identical. There are some comments on the french site but I don't speak french. Maybe they confirm that it works? I don't own a DVD 25 right now but I might buy one soon. I would appreciate very very much if somebody could confirm that this firmware update/patch enables PAL progressive scan output (and of course code free playback). Thanks in advance. |

Anonymous | Hi, This is to let you all know that I tried upgrading the DVD 25 to progressive scan (and region free) with the firmware at the Apache site and I was stuffed! The player locked up and HK would not touch it and I had to remove and replace the memory chips in it for it to work..... But maybe I ve done something silly, I don't know |
Anonymous | DVD 25 serious problems. I am completely fed up with the DVD 25. It will lock up during a firmware upgrade for no reason. It happened to me and lots of others and HK will not touch it. They will claim it is your fault and will not fix it even under warranty. Apparently the memory chips get upgraded half-way and there is no way to reset them or even to reload the minimal firmware needed to do an upgrade from scratch. Very cheap design from HK. I've found a fix (not cheap). If interested mail me at jtza111@yahoo.gr Apparently there is no region free code for the machine either. In short, stay away from it! |

Damian | I'm looking to buy euro version of black HK DVD25 or DVD30 with silver accents (buttons and tray). I can't seem to find it. Is anybody from UK or Germany aware of the place I could get one like this? Thank you so much I already have US version but can not watch euro dvd's |
Bl@ckFoX | @Damian Did You try Ebay.de?? There are some people selling stuff international, so You might find your DVD25 silver there... |
Bl@ckFoX | Hi People, I DID IT! AND IT WORKS! Yep, the patch from the Apache site works perfect. I followed the instructions and it even though I burnt the cd with 4x speed instead of single speed as is told on the website, it worked! Go on using this patch, HK DVD25 is the best! |
| Hey, a message from Sweden here. Please read the information on the following page: http://international.harmankardon.com/products/upgrade/DVD25_software.asp?language=ENGLISH. Note that you can only use this firmware upgrade on players with a lower serial number than WA0001-12582. All other players already have this firmware upgrade, maybe thats why your player is locked. I downloaded the patch from the apache.net website, and its identical with the one from Harman Kardons website. I just bought my DV 25 today but will not be able to test it for two weeks. Anyhow it has a way higher serial number than WA0001-12582 (35284). Good luck to you. |

| Hi, Anybody tried the new Sony DVPNS730? It's supposed to have PAL progressive scan... Cheers. |
Damian | Thanks Black Fox. I'll try that. Were you using US or EU DVD25 when applying the patch? |
aksak | I suggest you to pay a visit to the following french websites where you can order cheap HK DVD 25 free zones and pal progressive : www.hifissimo.fr or http://www.cobrason.fr/pagedetailsfamille.asp?numfam=2&idfamille=8&idsousfamille=37&nomsousfamille=DVD&numPage=1 Sorry guys these two sites are only in French . And if you leave outside of EU, you can get VAT back (approx. 14 to 15% of the value of the player down) . Me, I intend to buy a SONY DVP-NS 930 . |

Anonymous | I've had my Harman Kardon DVD25 for around 6 months and I'm still amazed every time I watch a movie on my projector in progressive mode. I used the Apache firmware upgrade with a disc burnt at 4x and it upgraded with no problems. I wonder if all these people with problems actually bother to follow the simple instructions? Finally, am I the only one but why aren't there many PAL DVD disc that are in progressive format, every one of my region 1 NTSC disc are. |

| Thanks for the tip. I just ordered from Popular Electronics. http://popularelect.com/7000.html The Akia S760 is out of stock, but they have Akai DVPS7000 for $114.99. I'm giving it a shot so I can view DVD's from Denmark. I will post again once I receive my new machine and have tried it out. This chat room was the best resource for finding my new DVD player with PAL mode. Amazon.com was no help what so ever. |
