Every time I do a blind scan or scan for channels I get double channels. I am using a viewsat ultra and the double channels one will have info of what's on the other will have no info. Can you please advise?

There are several reasons why you may be getting doubles. Therefore, I would think it would just be best to start over. However, I'd make sure I deleted all the channels first. In addition, sometimes deleting all of the channels without doing a default will cause double channels.

I'm a novice, but is widely known that "blind scan" will cause double channels. I've been told to "Auto scan" to avoid repeat channels.

Delete previously scanned channels before rescanning.

As a final procedure after doing what Semore Butts says, you should do editing such as parental control, and setting up favourites, and then save the channels, so you can use this channel list for the near future.
