I just bought a used FLU. It appears to have the factory bin on it but when I try to load any bin to upgrade it including the factory one I downloaded i get a write failed. anytime I try this if the flashing bootup light will go very slow and the unit will not bootup until I turn it off and on again. if I wait to try writing until ON comes on the reciever the setup screen becomes mostly black and and once it says write faild and I press cancel the unit reboots. so it is communicating with the reciever it just will not write a bin file. I was using blacklist stb updater 1.4.0.0. and the fortecstar stb updater and this is the factory bin I tried loading http://forums.dsstester.c*m/vbb/showthread.php?t=133210 along with a few others.

I posted this on another forum here http://forums.dsstester.c*m/vbb/showthread.php?p=810480#post810480 but figured I would post here as well since people here have posted similar problems. I also read this thread where it says https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-video/173994.html where it says "If you have the year model Dec 2004 or 2005 receiver then you may need to use a USB to Serial cable 26-183 at Radio Shack." I'm using a regular serial cable is it possible a USB to serial cable would work when a straight serial cable doesn't? does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or whats wrong with my FLU?

Try reloading the boot with the tool/files in jvvh_team PUFF Boot BG link. Tronics 421 loader doesn't need a reset to kick in.

If you havent converted to PUFF yet, may try this, the full kit is also there too.

*What is the Baud rate set for the com1 port of the PC in the Device MGR? 115200?

I think reading the instructions in the Methods doc for conversion at the link above may clear your issue. Start fresh with a new boot.
