Manny Mania hits L.A. on Sunday night. Manny Pacquiao will arrive from the Philippines and land at LAX on Sunday eve to begin training for his upcoming 'Dream Match' against Oscar De La Hoya on Dec. 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Pacquiao will meet with chief trainer Freddie Roach on Monday and the two will work out a battle plan to get ready for Oscar. Roach plans to study two Oscar video tapes in fights against lefthanders Pernell Whittaker and Hector Camacho. Team Pacquiao has also asked for a video of Oscar against Steve Forbes.
Roach confirmed today that cutman Miguel Diaz, who has been in the corner of many superstars, will join Team Pacquiao and prepare for "Manny's biggest fight of his life." Diaz, 70, of Las Vegas said he was thrilled to be asked. "This will be one of the biggest events I've ever been in," Diaz said. "I will do all I can to help Manny. He's a real warrior who fights with all his heart every second of every round. Every member of Manny's team, including me, is convinced we will win on Dec. 6."Michael Koncz, advisor to Manny, just returned from the Philippines and said the champ began his roadwork a week ago. "Manny will be in the gym with me on Monday," said Roach today. De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao will available on HBO Pay Per View.Pacquiao will also take time to promote his first boxing show as promoter on Thursday September 25 at the Sycuan Casino in association with Sycuan Ringside Promotionsm, the memorable night of boxing in El Cajon will feature Mexican boxers against Filipinos with the main event pitting world ranked Bernabe=2 0Concepcion against Mexican champion Giovanni Caro in a ten-round super bantamweight bout that begins at 7:30 p.m. (local time). Other Pacquiao-backed boxers include junior welterweight Dennis Laurente (29-3, 15 KOs) fighting against Arturo Urena (20-15, 12 KOs) and lightweight Mercito Gesta (13-0-1, 5 KOs) competing against Alain "Conan" Hernandez (12-5-2, 7 KOs) of nearby Tijuana. Tickets for the outdoor venue are on sale now. Tickets are priced at $250, $150, $75 and $50. It's a no win fight for Delahoya. If he wins people will say, oh, he was supposed to win, after all, he's way bigger than Pac Man. And if he loses, they will say, damn, DLH got his @ss kicked by a little bitty guy. But..after saying that....If Pac Man can stick and move for 12 rounds he has a chance to win the decision, but if he gets tired and DLH catched him with that left hook...it;s lights out.
