King, Nalin and All:
My friend has the following set up:

Fortec80 dish whose dimensions are:
Diameter short axis 75cm (30 inches) -horizontal
Diameter long axis 83cm (33 inches) -vertical

KU -- Band Gain @12.5 GHz 38.24 dB - as per dish specification.

LNB: CB2008A which is supposed to be wide band with input frequency range from 11.70Ghz to 12.75Ghz and an extremely low noise figure 0.3dB.

He has signal quality of 97% for all 119 transponders above 12.25 Ghz.

Only 60% signal quality for only horizontal transponders in 118.8 from above 12.00 Ghz and hardly 20- 30% for vertical transponders above 12.00 Ghz.

Marginal signal quality hardly 10% for both horizontal and vertical transponders from 11.7 to 12.0Ghz.

Is the dish 30 inch dish too small?

I was reading in another other forum that only Digiwave DGL-1189S LNB can pick up frequencies from 11.7 to 12.00 GhZ.

Would a Invacom or Digiwave LNB work better with same 30inch dish?

Can some dish moving to get higher signal quality from 11.75 Ghz help - does not mind if the signal quality at higher Ghz drops to say 85% in the process?

What do you suggest:

Try some dish moving and optimize signal strengths?

Replace the CB 2008A LNB with Digiwave or Invacom?

Replace 30 inch dish by bigger dish 33, 36 or 39?

who installed the dish.it is probably off.with a
30" dish you should not have any problems

The problem is simple and obvious

- Alot of those 30" dish are designed for Linear LNBs and Linear LNB bracket, linear focal point etc.
- The dish size is fine yo can do a lot with it

- I think yo have a combination of at least 2 problems
- But mainly basic installation issues
- require better mounting, pointing and careful installation

What I'll do:
- In antenna setup installation
- Select tp 11715 or any tp on/from 118.7 neglect 119
- Start adjusting dish pointing only for 118.7
- It should be a minor tweek like 1/4" or less (up/down or side to side from dish pole)
- Keep an eye on quality meter level it gradually should start to improve

- The combination of problems without looking at your installation will be (insufficient tools, incorrect LNB mounting or wrong focal distance/positiontioning)
119 is very easy to get 118.7 is a bit more challenging as it is newer satellite

But asking is the right thing to do
Go back to the installation setup, move your dish
And come back and tell me how it improved

Thanks King
It is very cold so would not venture even for myself let alone a friend, will certainly try it when it is less cold and will let you know.

What do you suggest:

Try some dish moving and optimize signal strengths? YES

Replace the CB 2008A LNB with Digiwave or Invacom? NO

Replace 30 inch dish by bigger dish 33, 36 or 39?
YES

Dish Network DISH 500 Plus Antenna

(For Dish Network regular programming, HDTV, international, and some local channels). This satellite dish is used by Dish Network to receive signal from 3 orbital locations (110,118.7,119).

Yukon, tell me yo R joking
"Replace 30 inch dish by bigger dish 33, 36 or 39? YES"

Why would he replace the dish?
He says he got a 33"x30" oval dish
I know those dishes as they are made for standard Ku band

This dish can work perfectly on any satellite
NO NEED TO REPLACE DISH

All he needs a minor tweek and better antenna installation

Subash, I know exactly how it feels, but you are very close to get it all.

Suggestions: No need of redo mounting, just fine-tuning. Pick up a median strength TP and peak it up by adjusting Dish (up-down-left-right)and LNB (forward-backward). Then find a weaker TP and peak it up again.

Dish 500Plus is about 26x28" Oval
Smaller than super dish

But what do yo mean?
"Replace 30 inch dish by bigger dish 33, 36 or 39?"

Anyway
What I say 30" can easily get 110/118/119 no need to replace to bigger dish

King:

Today moved the dish trying to aim for 118.8. It was a partial success, the best that could be achieved by aiming was a signal quality of 67% for 11715, however the quality goes up after 12000.

Well it is good enough to get pictures. Both the signal and quality are at 97% for most of the transponders in 119.

You are right it is very sensitive to slight movements. Unfortunately for the Fortec80 (30 inch) dish focal length and skew cannot be adjusted.

Has anyone got a signal quality of either 90% or above for 11715 in 118.8?

If so could you please post your dish and LNB combinations?

Anytime yo get Q/Quality above 60% is good enough
This is not partial success this great success

That type of LNB yo using is not the greatest anyway
The best yo'll get 70 to 75% with better skew
And your dish can't be skewed

For now 60% is good enough
Yo may want to strap a second LNB for 110

Let me know if yo are I'll give yo a tip to get all 3 sats

Thanks a lot for your words of encouragement.

The LNB for 110 is on the old 18 inch dish that had both 110 and 119, just to keep matters simple. The 110/119 bracket for 18 inch dish was not easy to handle for 30 inch dish for novice. The 110/119 bracket for 30 inch dish is not available locally.

Is it possible to get good signal strength on 118.8 if one uses two individual LNB's for 118.8 and 119, instead of one LNB for both?

What brand or type of LNB can get one 85% or 90% signal quality for 118.8, it would be nice it it can handle 119 as well but not a must.

Can a inline signal amplifier such as the following:

http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?PROD=D903

Be of some help? BTW it costs $16 plus shipping so almost the cost of a LNB itself.
