Hi all , forgive my ignorance but is there any difference in appearance between DB9 cable and a
RS232 null cable?, can you tell them apart?

thanks

DB9 cable and Null cable minor difference

Only 3 wires used
But pin2 and Pin3 are cross coupled
If yo have an Ohmmeter can test continuity
2 goes to 3 and
3 goes to 2

You are better off buying a DB9 M/F null adaptor.

The adaptor can be used with any unknown DB9 F/F cable.
That way you will never have to think what cable to to use. Use the cable and if it does not work, insert the adptor in line.
