Well, the Providers aren't wasting any time and are keeping Coders busy, and they barely have time to work on the EMU solution. Map57 is back with a vengance and with a new timing algorithm once again. Coders are using some pretty fancy tools to find the answer to these timing cycles and I'm sure they will find it, because if you don't know what is going on, how are you supposed to write a way around it? Please everyone just be patient. You all know by now they do their best for us, and are determined NOT to let providers win the battle. We have plenty of channels left out there, so enjoy what you have and give these poor guys a chance to work.

We'll know more in awhile and will get the info out there. Stay tuned right here to this GREAT site. Thanks!!

All PPVs, Adults Premiums, and International channels on DN are down at the moment

Now... We have some new news from friends on the inside...

I really can't say all of what I know, but the map EMU is down to just a few routines left. It needs some streamlining and cleaning up, but it IS delivering control words accurately right now. There's a map command and a few other little routines to finish, but they are close. I'd say around February 1st, providers may indeed have a tough time bringing us ALL down for awhile.

We CAN tell you this, though. Providers are pulling out all stops. They are doing things that the card was never intended to do in an effort to squash FTA. Coders really don't seem too worried, though, so neither should you. We may have a bit of a bumpy ride this month, but soon the tide will turn.

Everybody just please remain calm, and check here for the latest updates and be patient and wait!

Have the Coders ever let us down yet?

We have seen many, many worse situations than this!!Oleg PHD.

At 7:45 EST time in Northern Ontario 3EV went down. I am running 090507U bin and been working fine. I was in the middle of doing fresh scan on N82 and just finished and went to see if I had locals and all was down, I thought what are the chances it was hit while doing the scan, went to sister site and sure enough splash screen says both 3EV and DN are blacked out. Waited 15 minutes and at 8:00PM 3EV came back up with same 090507 bin.
Go figure......
My other Ultra with newest bin is also up on 3EV all channels and DN only locals from MN and WI.

Changing dishes isn't as easy as it looks...

Well, sometimes changing a dish goes smoothly, but not this time, not for me. I was swapping my good old Winegard 76 cm dish with a nice new Fortec 90 cm dish. It's pointed at Galaxy 10R, the satellite with the best English-language content but a relatively weak signal.

I thought that this would be easy. First, I put a stake in the ground to mark the exact pointing angle for the old dish arm. Then off went the old dish, and on went the new one. The first surprise was that my 7/16-inch wrench (see my getting started list) was useless; the nuts appeared to be metric. Oh well, whatever they were, an adjustable wrench still worked on them. I lined up the arm, adjusted the elevation and ... nothing. No hint of a signal.

I tried the usual minor adjustments left-right and up-down. Still nothing. I tried wider adjustments. Still nothing. It was time to get back to basics.

When I was first installing my Ku-band dish, a cheap little signal finder (like the one pictured) saved me. More on that in future blog entries. Anyway, I dug it out and, because it won't work with the universal LNBF mounted there, I dusted off my old original standard LNBF. And I do mean "dusted off"; it had been sitting outside on a workbench shelf for over a year. It looks just like this one, a DMSI ASC321.

Using one of these little signal finders is as much art as science. You turn the knob until the needle on the meter moves to somewhere in the middle, as the device squeals. Then when you move the dish closer to a strong satellite, the squeal gets louder and the needle moves to higher numbers. Adjust the knob to move the needle back to the middle with this stronger signal, and repeat.

Remember when I said that G10R has a weak signal? That meant that it was easy to find every other nearby satellite. By seeing what channels were visible, I could tell when the dish had strayed to AMC 16 or Galaxy 13. That's how I could tell exactly what elevation setting to use and about where to move it east-west. Once the G10R signal locked in, the last adjustment was the optimal position of the LNBF on the arm. I swapped my sensitive univeral LNBF back in, and everything's better than ever.

Lessons learned: Maybe you can't predict direction by the way the dish arm is pointing; the replacement dish's arm was at least half a degree to the right of the old one. Those old standard LNBFs work remarkably well for their low price. And even if you only use it once a year, it's worthwhile to keep a cheap little signal finder around.

Re: Do not flush your files ( had to reload factory pgm)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Up and running. Downloaded 071124p-2, tried loading got to 100% and locked up. I hit cancel, I then turned off the receiver. Started up loader 2 again and loaded the factory bin (050521) as normal. It took fine and wated it reset to 0000. Then loaded the nov 24 fix again. The only thing I could think off is there is alot of pgm changes lately and things could have got a little screwed up on the transfer. My 2 cents if someone else has the same problem. Running wide open on be**
