Samsung DLP - Bulb sparks, Help Please!

This TV has been wonderful for me. However, the bulb recently blew. I received a bulb (product # BP9601403A) from my warranty issuer and installed it. The housing on this replacement lamp is different than the bulb that came with the TV (product # BP9600823A).

I installed the bulb, according to Samsung's directions. Everything seems to fit fine, except the screw in the new housing wouldn't screw into the Bulb frame in the tv. Other than that, everything else fits snugly.

Heres where trouble began. When I turned on the TV after inserting the new bulb, it wouldn't switch on. I heard a faint buzzing noise in the back and took a look. I noticed a spark under the bulb, that would last approximately 4-5 seconds. The TV would repeat this cycle twice and then power down.

Please, someone help!!! I don't know what to do. Try to get another replacement bulb that is a different model number, or take it to a tech specialist? I've never had any problems with this TV before. I've tried taking the bulb out and putting it back in 3 times to no avail. HELP!!!

K. Foster,
The problem you are describing seems to be as a result of a bad ballast (also known as lamp driver). The buzzing/glowing you see underneath/beside the lamp is from the ballast trying to spark the lamp with no success. I can't gaurantee 100% that this is the problem, but from my experience 95% of the time, the ballast is at fault. Your part number is BP47-00027A

My new bulb will be here mid-week. If it doesn't start with the new bulb, then I will look to the ballast as the culprit. Thanks for the help Ova. I'll keep you up to date.

Ovadoggvo:

It was the bulb. It seems the ballast in my model number (Model # HL-R4667WAX/XAA) is not compatible with the new replacement bulbs samsung is making for my TV. The sparking was the ballast trying to fire up a bulb that was not compatible. To remedy the situation, I had to ship my existing housing to a company where they installed the bulb, part #BP9600823A, for me.

That's weird, I haven't heard of the ballast reacting that way to a bulb before.

You might have a weak ballast so maybe they gave you a different lamp with a lower wattage.

It's still probably a good idea to replace your ballast.
