Ulead MovieFactory 3 works well for me. I use it to capture the VHS in MPEG2 then author it into VOB files with chapters. The I use DVD Shrink to make it fit 1 DVD and burn it with Nero 6. Hope this helps. It took me months to figure out which work and which are just hype

I know shrink is freeware, but what about the others you mention?
