YES, with a Motorized Dish you can only Scan in one Satellite at a time, but with a push of a
button on your remote you can Scan in (32 or more Birds. How many Dishes would you need to Scan in that many Birds? I will not say one way is better that the other. Most of the people that come here are looking for help to watch some FREE TV.A very few of us are for the Hobby.
A Motorized Dish is like a TOY with a push of a buttom you can search the Southern Skies for new or old BirdsUpload

Nice comparison of the all the dish's pointed to TRY to compete with ONE motorized dish!

With all the channles I get with the motor its worth it. I have a second receive as well connected to a dish 500 for the wife-kids to enjoy. It is about 17 sat's I get here with 31" dish-motor. If you only have one receiver a motor is the answer

With all the ECM changes at least I have 100's of channles that work all the time!

I never said I had a BUD installed now. I have said I HAD one <-----HAD one. We have moved and I have not installed the BUD as of yet. With the cost of 4DTV getting so high we decided to try out this FTA receiver first. That was over a year ago. I have had the FTA working so why put up the 4DTV? I still have a 10 foot ready but not installed.

Hope that clears that up.

if you put a 31" dish up the elevation is not that big a deal. You can pretty much get a signal on all the satellites.

DS,
The motor is made in such a way that it moves east to west keeping the tilt correct. It moves at a angle. What you do is "tune" (moving the dish's tilt manually) in a satllite as good as you can just like when you install a static dish and the motor moves to another sat it will be tuned for it as well. I always "tune" at 81 then at 148. That way its the best it can be.

Ray,

With a bigger dish 31" compared to 18" elevation is a bigger deal. If your are not as close as possible you will not get some sat's. I have a few here were I only get 50% quality so if the elevation is off just a little I would not get them.

Also the focus of the signal at the LNB on the 31" is smaller than on a 18" so harder to get....try getting a 10 foot dish's focus tuned sometime its verry small!
