NAD T532 troubles

i've had my NAD T532 for about a year and within the last month or so it's developed a peculiar problem. i only play store-bought, factory manufactured dvds and now i am having the same problem that i have seen others playing dvd-r discs complain about. the dvd plays for 1 hour, 13 minutes and some odd seconds, then begins to fast forward in ten second increments. does anyone know how to reset this player or have other solutions to offer? i live in nyc and have been told by a couple of authorized dealers that i should ship the player to The Service Bench in Mass. Has anyone dealt with them?

Thanks for your help,

Wild guess. That is 73 minutes. It thinks the disc is a CD, and goes searching, in vain, for instructions about what to do next. It has stopped being able to change layers. I'd maybe clean the lens on the photodiode, carefully.
