Pansat 2700a question

I just got my new Pansat 2700a today. I have a 31 inch dish satellite which is pointing to 101W Satellite (which was used for Dish Network in the past) and is giving me 85% signal. I verified this before hooking up the 2700 by hooking up an old receiver and going into the signal settings.

I then hooked up the 2700 directly to my TV (without using the included switch) and then went into the 2700's settings for "antenna setup"
and it shows a bunch of satellites. My question is which satellite can I choose in order to get what ever FTA programming is available in my area without hacking the box?

thanks
Angelo

I suggest you look at the following URL. 101W might not be the right direction

I got the 101W by hooking up an old Direct TV receiver which I had service from my old house, could the 101W have come from the settings on that receiver? The reason I ask is because Dish Network was previously installed at this home and not Direct TV.

If the previous owners had DN installed , then there is NO way U get 101W..yeah the DTV receiver may "indicate" that to you, but it's NOT happenning!

Im aware that I wont be getting DTV, I actually want to be able to get whatever FTA is out there according to where my satellite is pointing.

FTA uses linear lnbs. Your dish has circular. If you want to use true FTA then you will need linear lnbs and you may have to re-aim your dish.

A friend of mine helped me update the 2700 with bin 203 and we hooked it up to the tv and with Echo 7 and Echo 8 Im getting level ranges in the 80% range but the quality level never moves from 0% regardless what the settings are at?
What can cause the level to always remain at 0%?

thanks

Dish isn't aimed properly.
Also, incorrect lnb type or switch port setup in receiver.

sorry my bad, i spoke to soon, the lnb type Ive tried is standard and Dish-pro and neither of those work in regards to changing the quality from 0%. WOuld the only other thing be that the satellite on the roof isnt aimed correctly?

thanks

Would the dish not being aimed properly still give me a level 83% while also giving me 0% Quality?

thanks

Is it relatively easy for me as a home owner to adjust the dish to be able to get the Quality? Perhaps with help from another person? (one to be on the roof and move the dish around the other to watch if the Quality changes?

Is there a way that I can tell in the settings on the Pansat 2700 what degree the dish is exactly pointing to currently?

thanks

what is this Jeopardy!...go READ at the hundreds of DSS sites about dish alignment!...and they have calculators to use to help u align/aimthe dish towards a specific satellite from your specific zipcode and location...provides the dish elevation, azimuth, and skew adjustments needed...in fact, read the RECOMMENDED REPUTABLE sites thread here, they are listed in that thread!

Enas Filos : YOU ARE NOT AIMED AT A SATELLITE THAT WILL GIVE YOU WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.
You will have to SWING the dish and align it properly. If you are not sure about it get somebody to do it for $50 - that is the usual price for going on to the roof and aligning it properly.
To read about it, join a site from one of the URLs, such as

http://www.totalfta.com
http://www.dssrookie.com

There is a wealth of information out there at those sites and many more sites, and it is very well catalogued and classified for easy reading.
