Anonymous | Last night I was helping my friend hook-up her new tv, dvd, receiver, old vcr. the guy at the major appliance outlet told us that we should use an s-video cable vs. the red/white/yellow cable. when we used the s-video, we got no sound. why? |

MyStar | S-video cable is for video only. For sound, you have to use RCA cables (red/white), optical or digital coaxial cable if there is a optical out or coaxial output from your DVD to your receiver. |

Anonymous | I have a Toshiba DVD Video Player SD-1700. Yesterday I put in a DVD movie to play and I couldn't get any sound from my relatively new Samsung TV. Up until last night the DVD Player worked fine. I have gone through the Owner's manual several times to verify the settings and checked all the connections. I still have no SOUND. To further check the sound, I put a music CD in the player and the sound worked on it. |

Anonymous | I had the same problem with a toshiba notebook. As I understood from what I could read, the CD sound travels in analogic mode (and through the speakers output) and the DVD sound only goes in digital mode. I guess this means that DVD sounds goes through the s-video connector, so you may have an s-video cable with enough pins so to transfer video and audio to the TV and hear the sound from your tv speakers. |
