Component Video and Comcast - The War continues

I have a very basic setup that I hope to expand soon. I connect a Comcast DCT5100 box through component video outs to my Mitsubishi WD 73821 1080PTV. I also connect my Samsung DVD/VCR combo with component video outs to my TV.

Here are the two questions that I cannot seem to get answers for:
1. There are two kinds of component video cables (YPbPR and YCbCr) - my cable box and dvd have YPbPr outputs as does my TV component ins. However, I got YCbCr cables before I realized there were two different kinds of component cables - would there be a difference in quality if I moved to the YPbPr

2. What resolution/format does a standard Comcast cable box transmit at - my TV says 480i when watching the non-HD channels? That seems like the worst ever. Comcast has not been helpful in finding an answer. What can I do to get the very best picture I can.

Tony, the two component types use the same cables, so there should not be any difference in performance. This is assuming those YCbCr cables have standard RCA phono plugs on the ends.

I have no personal experience with Comcast or that Motorola cable box, but I believe the component output resolution is settable. (One question though: what does the TV say when watching an HD channel?) This blog might help:

The DCT-5xxx series are not HD boxes, the HD boxes begin with the DCT-6xxx series. All you will ever get from it is 480i.

SD channels are going to be 480i, unless the box upconverts.

My Scientific Atlanta 3250HD box upconverts everything to 1080i and there's no way to change it. I guess it's the cable company that determines what their boxes will or won't do.
