Any clue why my picture quality is very poor? is it becuase of the cables? i am using normal AV cables (red, white, and yellow) is there a special HD audio/vedio cable for it? or is it becuase i have my regular air tv hooked up to the VCR and then Coaxial out from the VCR into my TV and i also have my sattelite hooked up to the VCR using coaxial cable and then same coaxial into the TV. One more note, DVD quality is poor aswell and thats hooked up to my TV using an audio/video cable(red, white, and yellow).

any suggestions ideas are appreciated

You are using a combination of the wrong cables and wrong service. You should ask your satellite provider for their HD service (it'll probably cost more). They can provide you with an HD box. The minimum cable you will need to use for the HD box for satellite is component (red/blue/green) cables like the ones here http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023502 &p_id=960&seq=1&format=2&style=

Usually your cable or satellite provider will provide you with these cables with your box. If the box supports it you may also use an HDMI cable http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024002 &p_id=2219&seq=1&format=2&style= or a DVI->HDMI cable http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10231&cs_id=1023102 &p_id=2218&seq=1&format=2&style= . If the box has a DVI connection, use the DVI->HDMI cable. One end will be DVI, the other will be HDMI. Your tv only has HDMI connections so that's why you would need it. If the box supports HDMI, use an HDMI-HDMI cable.

You can get over-the-air HD channels with a HD compatible antenna plugged directly into the digital coax of the tv. There will be one digital coax connection and one analog coax connection in the back of your tv, use the digital one. Normal non-HD channels will look like crap most of the time, it's not necessarily your tv's fault, it's like watching a Youtube video fullscreen. The resolution of standard definition tv was not made to be shown on a 42" tv, high-definition channels and DVD's look awesome.

For your dvd player, use the component (red/blue/green) cables, or if your dvd player has a DVI or HDMI connection you can use that. Make sure you have the option for 16:9 widescreen selected on your dvd player.
