A usb to serial adapter can be used. radio Shack has them. Most have lots of trouble with it for FTA updates. Easiest way to fix is to find a older computer to use for updating. I use a older dell laptop it also makes it hander than getting the receiver out of its home each time I want to load a file or a channel list.
