Standards PAL-NTSC

Hi, does someone know if it's possible to do something when you've got a dvd player reading NTSC only to make it play PAL dvds ( considering that the player has been put in Region Free already but then is it usefull ??) Can we switch it or is it completely a question of real hardware ?? Can a device be istalled in the player or what ??

Thanx

PAL and NTSC are analog formats. The DVDs, being digital, are Mpeg-2 I believe and only come out PAL or NTSC based on the DVD player. Furthermore when you use component video output from the DVD player you bypass the comb filter and NTSC tuner so I am not sure if that is in any usable format for you. I think that you will have to get a device like an NTSC/PAL vcr to convert your signal from composite output. You may also have to use a line enhancer to get around the macrovision copyright protection. Please let me know your final solution.

thanks a lot for your answer !

Well i can't really tell about all that because the stupid point in the story is that i don't have the player with me now...

But i didn't know that dvds were all in MPeg 2 and that the encoding was only done when signal is going out to the Tv or other device.

And do you mean that if i plug an other player (because the one i have is a home theater all in one so with many plugs) in then i can really bypass the NTSC problem ?? And then get dvd Z.2 with all the 5.1 sound and a correct image on screen ?? Well all this is too confused sorry !!

Anyway what about the line enhancer you're talkin' about ?? Is it a device you connect between the tv and the player or something you must install inside the machine ??

Thanks again !! And excuse my confusion !

Hi. I'm in region 2 ( Europe ) which use mostly PAL DVDs. The interesting thing about DVD Players in our region is that most of them can play NTSC DVDs from Zone1 after you set DVD Player multizone. I for instance have Sansui and Toshiba both of them ha switch PAL-NTSC so I can play NTSC DVD in pal format and vice versa.
Regards.

Does anyone know about The MPAA coding for all zone 1 dvds?
Apparently the (MPAA) Motion Picture Association of American has developed a new system called REA which will be included on almost all new region 1 DVD releases. This new technology was created to prevent consumers with Code free DVD players from watching DVD discs purchased in North America. From now on, most region 1 DVD discs will be including this technology. As such, you may find in the future that some DVD discs bought in the United States will not work on your Code free DVD player. Currently, there is no word on whether or not this technology will be included on other regions.

Does this mean that the new technology will have to include REA readers? Does that already exist? Are some dvd players able to by-pass that coding and read the new REA CODED discs? Does anyone know?
