No need to be sorry to me...I ALWAYS had and still have a STRONG dislike for George W!....and didn't like his dad either...and voted for John Kerry last time, and Joe Biden (Delaware) the next election, if Kerry doesn't run..hell, Hillary has triple the brains of Bush!

BTW...I am from Mass and a Democrat and NOT a Bush fan ...never was either...I knew he was incompetent before he ever was President, so was his father too....hell, the man couldn't mange and own the Texas Rangers baseball team sucessfully, or even put a uniform on 2 days a month and "pretend" to be an officer in the military, during the Vietnam and draft days....but Ryerson, at least U have the right person in the cake, unlike George W who went after Hussein and Iraq instead, who had done NOTHING to the US, other than piss off "daddy" Bush...I think George W " conveniently forgot" that it was mostly ALL Saudia Arabians (George's buds and his financial backers with his oil well businesses that went dixie...his own father did not support his financial interests...LOL) and BIN laden that attacked the US..

BTW...I think thats the same Bush picture and expression, when he waited 7 minutes to REACT while reading and talking to 2nd graders in Sarasota, after being told the US had been attacked!....dah, what do I do now!

Wow LK,

And I thought u were all about FTA, and army stuff....LOL, now i'm really impressed. Goes 2 show how we can all make bad assumptions at times ;)

I recently posted a reply 2 "ISR" (aquiescing..lol.. he is in Iraq), about my feelings toward that assignment. I get into some fairly heated arguments about U.S. foreign policies all the time.

It only gets ugly, when personal attacks are launched. I'm sometimes accused of being anti... by some who really are convinced that I'd like 2 see the fall of the U.S.

Nothing could be further from the truth. I hope the U.S. or Canada, or any other nation on any other continent, will step up when the call goes out for assistance.

I wish the people of the U.S. would begin 2 question their media's ethics and disregard for truths. We've seen over history how powerful a people's voice can be when united for a positive cause. And we see 2 that the same arguments are always used, by the usual suspects, 2 impede progress.

Yes, I'd love 2 see a day when the people of America are finally treated with respect, and not lied 2, and not taken for sheep. But, with respect 2 all American people, it's how most of the world is viewing this powerful country - and it's scary.

I never blame the American people (sometimes i do get frustrated), but i do blame the architects of this creation...and, yes, we have them here in Canada 2, just like we have them in France and the rest of the world.

A proper education is everything...i believe. Intellectual self- defense is crucial 2 get over around the powerful thought control.

Ur from Mass., that's awesome...I hope 2 one day visit...there's a great mind I hope 2 soon interview in person nearby. U probably already have recognized who I'm speaking of... (The world's leading intellectual, according 2 academics and other like-minded credible institutions).

Lol..I hope i don't get accused of trolling, and posting off-topic threads, but oh well..the thread was messaged at u anyway...lol

George W. - I'll bet most Americans, who understand politics or not, sense this guy is extreme, and dangerous 2 the common good. And by now he has shown incompetence enough times that, even if hiding under a rock, most have a good idea that he doesn't represent the average joe.

Sadly that it's come 2 this/him, he really may have been the blessing that was needed for change - the silver lining, if there is one here.

I think it will be a great day when the world doesn't have 2 be consumed by U.S. politics - we have our own problems, u see. But "the grabbing hands, grab all they can...everything counts in large amounts" and when these hands keep slapping one around, one better take notice.

I hope Hillary runs...Do u think America is ready for a female President? Actually, do u think America is ready for a Northern Democrat, ;) - hopefully, one who won't get killed?

I don't know about that.....Hillary or Biden or Kerry, or even Obama will have 2 talk lots from the "center" 2 even consider a chance....and u know, that's such a turn-off because deviating from elementary truths is playing the other side's game.

I think it's telling that Democrats need 2 talk from the center, or run with a Southern Democrat 2 engage the citizens, 2 even consider a shot. When a Democrat runs on left of centre views, and can do it without having 2 stand next 2 a Dixie Democrat, then I'll know something positive has changed. But Clinton's right, if Democrats appeal 2 their base, they send the middle cowarding toward the GOP.

Wow, sorry about the book i've written...these things are usually left for the political blogs, but i'm like a kid on a sugar fix when it come 2 poltical science.

Wink, wink...I haven't updated 2 the latest bin - 279, (for my Pansat 2700) u think it's worthwhile?

Regards

I am VERY political and have been an activist since I was a teenager growing up in the 60's..The Weathermen, SDS (Students for a Democratic Society, for U youngsters..LOL) NORML etc where I was a member at one time as a high school student and at UMass in Amherst..I grew up originally in South Boston but then moved to Western Mass near Mount Holyoke, Smith college, Amherst college and UMass..the best schools and scholars in the world are there, along with MIT and Harvard in Boston...

I learned at an early age the importance of an education and the NEED to be an ACTIVIST...actually the military gave me the opportunity to be BOTH!...I was NOT a puppet in the military and was VERY outspoken on many topics!...I was against the Vietnam war and protested many times before and after (hell, thats what finally caused the stop to that war), but I did what I had to do and actually got a free 12 months tour there to see first hand that my anti war feelings were warranted and very correct!...very similiar to John Kerry's beliefs....I have the same beliefs about this war in Iraq, which I also did see in 1991....I belong to Vietnam vets, American Legion, Amvets, VFW, DAV etc, and love this country and support the troops 100%, but I am NOT a sheep and do NOT usually agree with our military and political leaders, and their personal agenda's and alleged "foreign policies"....I have my own brain and opinions, and use my voting powers and any resources available to let others see both sides of every fence..so they can make "intelligent" decisions, and NOT ones forced down their throats by their parents and upbringing backgrounds, or the influence of money with hidden agenda's..

That's interesting stuff. U sound like a sergeant's worse nightmare though. ;)

I also find the whole military training an amazing psycho/social phenomenon. Ur trained 2 obey orders (and one can understand why that may at times be necessary), but what happens when thoses orders are diametrically opposite of one's beliefs and concepts of humanity and society? Are u guilty of treason, or cowardice? This stuff fascinates me.

How does a military hierarchy compare 2 the way society is at times controlled? And are the higher -ups always better suited for decision making? Who were the commanders in WWI, but if not the friends and family of the affluent...and who are the architects of modern wars, if not the usual suspects...It's kinda like watching Paris Hilton take charge of the world - is she the best we can do?

I'd like 2 see a return, in some degree, 2 participatory democracy...as opposed 2 this so-called representative "democracy"

When the working people are being represented by the rich, it should be no surprise the deal is bad for all of us. To h*ll with accusations of class warfare, stop commiting it on us, and we'll stop complaining about it.

How many people, do u think, believe they really do live in a democracy..that is...as opposed 2 a plutocracy?

It really does come back 2 this notion that the "strong" should/need 2 exploit the weak. I just can't grasp how this kind of thinking can actually dominate for so long. But it helps 2 explain much of history...slavery, monarchies, colonialism/imperialism, WII, the rise of the neo-con, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz etc...

The more things change, the more they really do stay the same.

I'm glad 2 hear u used ur experiences 2 arm urself with the knowledge needed for today's world.....what are the chances today's youth is doing the same? BTW, i didn't mean 2 imply people should go 2 higher schools, some can't afford it....but i beleieve there's a difference between being smart, and being educated - u can be one and not the other.

Plato had an understanding of society that still applies today - when he refers 2 the "allegory of the cave" How chained we really are, how blind we really are, and how ignorant we all really are.

LK, I'm not surprised u are on a site offering assistance about things u know - funny that.

BTW, where were u on September 11 -----------------1973?

My South American friends remind me regularly.

Maybe what Karl Rove should be planning for his October surprise (he's running out of time) is capturing bin Laden, taking him 2 Iraq, throwing him in a spiderhole, and calling the media 2 watch as they remove him.

Everybody would soon forget about this mess and all the negligence this administration has presented. And the Republicans could claim machismo again.

What a plan this!!

I'll send it off 2 the Project for a New American Century, or the Heritage Foundation, or maybe even Pat Robertson...lol

They haven't been right about anything yet; they could use some new advice. Of course i would love 2 advise them 2 take a walk through an Iraqi city around high noon as well.

The military has changed much, but of course the enforcement of new policies etc is determined by the immediate supervisors and local commanders...military is VERY democratic now in policy...very big on "empowerment" and "TQM (total quality management) and timed meetings ith facilitators and the lowest rank E1 to a general all have a say in brainstorming and policy making ...and new ideas etc.... I was a commanding officer and I let the troops tell me what was needed for them etc...of course there were many decisions I made myself but always listened to the masses and their opinions..military life is much like civilian except more organized and structured but no real loss of individual freedoms ..I have seen civilian employers MUCH more strict than the military..in its own way, the military strips u down, but then allows U to grow by yourself and become self sufficient...I grew up poor but due to my athletic skills and the military, I was able to go to college and get my degrees (pyschology and business)...this is just a hobby I picked up along the way...I am no electronics or puter genius..I started the military as a low ranking E1 combat photographer and a graphic arts specialist..but had the iniative to go back to school at nite and advance and become an officer and raise 2 sons by myself (now grown)and 1 in the military..and opposite political views than me..most military people like Republicans cause the like BIG Military budgets and give the troops raises all the time..military pays is good now,...son in miltary makes 65,000 a year and great bennies..and is ONLY 28 and supervises 100 other troops, and will retire in another 10 years at 38....military life is NOT always like the movies..of course branches of military (Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force) all are different and have different roles and philosophies..

This is all very interesting & informative

Yes,it is true that the military is overwhelmingly supportive of Republican policies. And because they are paid much more by Republicans, and also because bases don't tend 2 close under Republican leadership.

I wish that were different.

I wonder if ur son will one day find another view 2 be more in sync with all he will have learned.

A few years ago, a Burma Vet here in Canada showed me a writing by Major General Smedley Butler, entitled War Is A Racket...have u read it before? It's printed all over the net...i've since used it 2 get people 2 open their minds & challenge the traditional perceptions of wars.

Seeing as how u have the views u do, how do u keep urself from engaging in pointless arguments with those who think differently than urself?

The reason I ask, is because i've always felt that one should try and stick 2 the rudimentary morality and truths. This is not always a great strategy since even those who are wrong, often believe they are right. It seems like an endless circle of frustration. That is, even the logical truths are difficult 2 prove 2 the self-inflicted blind.

We all treat and react to different people and their views differently..and use various strategies based upon their character and thought process..I always try to determine how to best get their interest and "feel" my way around their thought process..and of course there are many various approaches used based upon this "feeling" around process...sometime U have to be angry and adament and other times passionate and gentle...but U must always use something that others can relate to and in a manner that seems to "touch" them... and then sometimes U are just talking to "the hand"...LOL...in those cases, I just surrender cause NOTHING will change their tunnel vision....but we all have "buttons" that can be pushed, me included... I sometimes go overboard and lose it...we are all human and different..
