I found the Loader2 program, and in the tutorials there is a mention of the PGM file which I found also. What are the opkey hex, chaninfo and satinfo files? I've found some opkey hex files on dsstester but am not sure what file I need for an xtreme. I thought I would only need the bin (PGM file) -- what is the purpose of the other files?

these are good instructions by FTAVIP:
NO CHANNEL LIST "EASY" Setup for ViewSat 2000 PLATINUM

WARNING: Do NOT Plug or UN-Plug VIEWSAT Into Wall Socket UNTIL Told - ViewSat damage may occur !!!

WARNING: Do NOT Hookup DiSEqC switch with Viewsat Powered !! Will Damage Switch

Assumptions: The "Easy" setup assumes: you are converting an existing installation; that you already have a satellite dish installed; that the satellite dish is aimed to the 119 and/or 110 orbital position(s); that you are using Legacy LNBs.

Basic Things You Need (Check the boxes as you go)

[]a []b []c 1a. ViewSat2000 Platinum 1b. DiSEqC switch 1c. Null Modem Cable

 2. Computer with a Serial Comm Port

 3. Television set (Tune TV to either Channel 3 or 4--Same Channel as ViewSat STB output is set)

[] 4. Satellite dish & 1 or 2 LEGACY LNB(s). Hook LNB cable(s) to DiSEqC [Port 1 to 119; (E*7) Port 2 to 110 = (E*6,8)]
With 1 LNB: hook directly to ViewSat without the switch OR through the DiSEqC switch. Your choice.
With 2 LNB: hook 119 cable to switch Port 1; hook 110 cable to switch Port 2

[] 5. Files: "ViewsatUSA_V69.PGM" (various names, but will have "V69" in name with a ".pgm" file extension.Get the new pgm from here: [link removed]
Unzip Zip file.

[] 6. (Most important!) Use your "common" sense!

================================================== ====================

 1. UNPLUG ViewSat. Connect ViewSat to computer Com1 Port with Null Modem cable. (Reboot computer, if needed)

 2. Open the program "Loader2". Get here: [link removed] UNZIP.

[] 3. Click "Open Files", select "ViewsatUSA_V69.PGM" to flash to STB.

 4. Click PC->STB, then Plug In your ViewSat electric power. (You should see the File loading properly)

[] 5. It's finished when STB displays "End", then "0000". *** WAIT for ViewSat to display "0001" on the front display.

[] 6. AFTER ViewSat displays "0001", UNPLUG your ViewSat. (Turning "OFF" before "0000" will ruin ViewSat!)

 7. Connect ViewSat to your TV

 8. Connect ViewSat to DiSEqC switch

 9. Connect DiSEqC switch to LNB cable(s). 119 goes to Sat 1, 110 goes to Sat 2

[] 10. Plug ViewSat into the wall socket and turn rear power switch "ON".

 11. Automatic Satellite Channel Search for 119 Satellite using LEGACY LNB
A. Main Menu---> 3. Installation-a 1. Automatic Channel a 1. Antenna Setup

ALIGN DISH or Check Signal Strength
MENU --> 3. INSTALLATION --> 1. ANTENNA SETUP
Highlight Echostar 7 (119)
Set "TP Freq." To 12282 or 12370 and have someone watch the Strength Bar--should be "Yellow" and above 70
