Connecting DVD to TV or through A/V receiver first?

Joe
I just recently purchased a A/V receiver which does not have a component or S-video input/output. I didn't see this as an issue because I figured that I would purchase a DVD player with component output and connect it directly to my TV, which has a component input, and run the audio to the receiver. What I'm wondering is, am I compromising any sound quality or missing out on any features from my A/V receiver? It has dobly digital, DTS, and Prologic II. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

I've just purchased a DVD player and tried to connect to the TV. But the TV has only an RF IN connector. What can I do?

I connected the video OUT of the DVD to the VCR Video IN while the VCR is connected to the TV via RF IN/OUT. It worked but the picture quality is poor and the screen flickers and rolls. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks
