The unit is about 4 years and a month old. We have had no problems up until about a week ago. Load in a disc and push play, the unit says it is reading (which is normal) and then a few seconds later it says "no disc". Everyonce in a while if you have the patience you might get it to work. I have tried to test/reset the system with no luck. What do you think?

Clean the lens and spindle with a q-tip wet with alcohol.

David,
Electronics is not really my gig. I removed the housing to the DVD player, which exposed all the electronics and the "DVD player". When the DVD disc door is open I can see something that might resemble the lens. Is that the laser? I guess what I need to know is how do I clean the lens and spindle. Keep it simple please.

Thanks,
Stu

The lens is a plastic eye, the spindle is what the disc sits on. Usually it's easy to get to the lens to clean it, not always though.

Took the unit apart and delicately cleaned, but still doesn't work. Maybe needs new optics (time for a new DVD player). Thanks for your time.
