Im pretty sure the COX rep @ best buy said they do, but I recorded a show last night and it didn't. Am I supposed to set some option somewhere? Or did his guy just lie (because I KNOW I didn't mis-hear ^__^ ----and if he meant you could just FF through them, he's an idiot because you can do that on a VCR too).

NO, they don't skip commercials when recording I'm pretty sure he told you it is able to skip commercials while viewing pre-recorded material, which of course you can.
Pre-recorded as in recorded previously in time on your Cox HD recorder. Yes it is by either using FF or some remotes can be programmed with a 30 second (commercial) skip button.
