I was getting free HD channels through my cable company

So I was getting free HD channels through my cable wire from armstrong before it went to the DVR box. They weren't even from my area. I ran a splitter before box and let the TV search on 1 input and the other input was for the dvr box. It was fine for a year and lately Ive' been losing the unlocal HD Channels. Does anyone know why.
