I bought the Sony FWD50PX2 based on some statetements made by the salesperson (caveat emptor I know), and then was disappointed in the following response from a poster at another AV forum. Are the conclusions by this poster accurate?

Because this thing is not a TV, it's a big sign, for use in Airports and such. People don't usually review signs . . . .
What hardware do I need to actually run this thing at higher resolution. Right now I can only get the 480i output from DVD and Standard tv. For example, do I need a special DVD player to get 720p output? Or can I get some type of convertor for all outputs? (I told ya they were newbie questions).
It will automatically scale all incoming signals to 768p. There are upconverting DVD players on the market but i don't know anything about em.
What hardware besides a computer use the DVI inputs?
Some older HD cable boxes have DVI outputs, dunno if there's anything else.
Why are many standard tv programs blurry even after calibration by AVIA?
Sony Plasmas don't have very good picture quality, and this is an older discontinued model so it probably has older technology. And the plasma panel is actually made by Samsung which is widely known for having poor standard def picture quality. And if your signal is not so great the Sony will make it look even worse. You didn't say what you're using as a TV tuner or how it's connected to the display so i can't comment on ways to improve PQ.
