the remote on my pioneer pro930hd has a display button. when watching hbo hd the display says "surround" and when watching another station the display says "stero" but when ewatching some (most) of the stations the display says "mono". even when "king of queens" statrts and says broadcast in 5.1 my display says "mono". i am using comcast cable card right now. any ideas?
according to comcast the cable card is not allowing the stereo or surround sound to play on most of the stations. i am taking the card back and getting the dvr.

it's not necessarily that. the most important thing you need to do BILL is you need to use a Digital Audio cable to get your Cable Surround sound to passthrough to the reciever. If you have the DVR box you can use the Optical or Digital Cox out but if you are still using the CableCard you need to have DIGITAL audio outs on the TV. Otherwise the surround sound won't passthrough to the receiver. BUT you should be able to setup the receiver to be in a SURROUND mode either way. The only difference is that with the Digital Cables, good receivers automatically switch your surround for you when the program is in surround sound. Hope this helps.
