DVD recording from DVR

I recently hooked up my new Sony DVD recorder to my Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR, and it works but I wouldn't say fine. I realized that I am recording analog and not digital but the picture is usually quite jittery regardless of the settings on the DVD recorder.

Is there anyway to improve the quality of the recording? Someone told me I need a video stabilizer? A quick Google search did not seem to support that idea but rather a way to remove VHS copy protection so they could be recorded to DVD. Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh the only recordings (burned DVDS) I have tried are from the saved movies on my DVR List and using the copy to VCR feature. I am not sure that has anything to do with it but that it may be important to mention.
