Can I add a UPS made for a PC to my HDTV?

New member Username: Cheapguy3Birmingham, AL USA Post Number: 4 Registered: Nov-05 | I just purchased a Sony 60" TV. It uses a light bulb to produce the image on the screen. While reading the manual, it said not to unplug the unit for about 2 minutes after turning it off in order to let the fan to continue to run until it gets the bulb cool enough. This leads me to believe that if I am watching a movie and the power suddenly goes out, I could have a fried bulb. These cost about $300 to replace. Instead of running that risk, I would like to plug the TV into a UPS made to power a PC. This should do the trick, but do you think it might introduce noise into the image or sound? Also, the TV takes 240W while running. I know the fan doesn't take that much, but would the TV's electronics allow the fan to run on reduced power input? In other words, do I have to purchase a UPS capable of putting out 240W or can I go with something less just to power the fan for a couple of minutes? |

tripp lite ups Unregistered guest | This is the ups I use made by tripp lite. I forget which web site I bought it from. It has worked flawlessly for over a year and I have had many power interruptions which probably would have killed my bulb by now. It also has a coax plug in for cable tv protection. I highly recommend. |

For lamp protection, it really doesn't matter what you use for a UPS, but there's a lot of sensitive circuitry in there too, so I would suggest using something with TRUE sine wave output. It DOES make a difference, so whatever you get, be sure to insist on TRUE sine wave output, not simulated... Personally, I like Para System UPSs, e.g. Minuteman. I've got one hooked up to this machine that I've used for over 10 years.
