I don't know much about DVR's other than I want one and don't want to upgrade my pansat 3500 to the 5000 I think it is for $400 or so. Is there a easy way to turn my old laptop into a DVR? I know I need a video card that has an imput but do they even make those for laptops? I guess I'm jsut looking for someone that has done it and would be willing to explain how to me, thanks!

You need a decent fast machine (1.4Ghz and above), a video card with video input and software that would allow you to record video real time. Also a good DVD-RW to record your show on DVD unless you have lots of HDD space and want to watch the show from the computer.

a true DVR can be programmed to record a specific show at specified time.
