I currently own the DMRE85HS but was thinking about buying the EH50S. Is it that much better? I read that the LP mode on the hard drive on this one is equal to the SP mode on the older dvd recorders. How true is that? Also, the EH50S allows you to record on +R +RW. Are dvd+r's better quality dvds than dvd-r?
The new recorders record in full resolution in LP is all, the older ones are half res. It's not equal to SP on an older one. DVD-R has slightly better compatibility than DVD+R.

Thanks for your help David. Does full resolution have anything to do with the quality of the picture?
Some people say it looks better at full resolution in LP, and some say it looks worse. LP on a Panasonic isn't very good quality to begin with, so on a high resolution TV, you would probably see even more flaws.
