I purchased a widescreen tv from norcent model : LT-2722. I hooked up my dvd player to the tv (using the component cable and inputs) and put in a dvd to watch. I was stunned to find black bars on the bottom of the tv just like if it were played on a 4:3 television. I looked in the menu at size and sure enough it was in 16:9 format but with black bars on the bottom and top of the screen. Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Thats not a problem. That is the original aspect ratio of the movie. The choices for most DVD productions are 1:1.85 and 2.35:1 I think ( reverse the first pair order sorry). Also anamorphic or non-anamorphic. ANyway, to elimiante or reduce the black bars- use the aspect ratio control to adjust to ZOOM mode. You can also change the bar colors to a middle gray on many displays.

This may/may not be related...I was watching Batman Begins and I also noticed the black bars on top and bottom, but the picture was also stretched, I guess since I'm using the 16:9 for watching satellite. Anyhow, in the end I found out my DVD player was actually set up for playing in 4:3 format on my old CRT so I changed it to 16:9. The black bars are still there, but now the picture is normal or 'as it was intended'.
