Question about widescreen and letterboxing???

I picked up a 50" Samsung DLP TV and the Sony DVPNS70H upconvert DVD player hooked up via HDMI cable. I just set the player up last night, I have had the TV for a month. This is my problem-When I play widescreen DVD's it still shows the picture in letterbox style(black horizontal lines at the top and bottom of picture). I have checked the settings, made sure the output on the player is set to 16:9, etc. Am I having a problem with the DVD's, or my setup? I think it may be the "anamorphic" widescreen that most DVD's come in is a 2.35:1 ratio so to show the whole image letterboxing must be present. Any help on this would be great as its driving me nuts! Thanks, Beau

2.35:1 movies are going to have black bars on any TV. 16:9 should fill the screen. If you want the screen full on 2.35:1 movies, you'll have to use zoom.

Either that, or just get used to the black bars.

Take comfort in the fact that you are watching more of the movie than would be possible if you had to light up the entire screen. - Reinhart
